Hello all 6th grade teachers,

In science camp we learned about 5 different types of invertebrates. The first type of invertebrate is the Cnidarians. Cnidarians are squishy and have tentacles. Jellyfish are one type of Cnidarian. Jelly fish can sting you with their tentacles. On their tentacles they have little cells called nematocysts. Nematocyst are the cells used to sting prey into paralysis and then the prey is eaten. Cnidarians have two stages of life. They start as polyp and evolve into medusa.

The second type of invertebrates are the Echinoderm. Echinoderms have 5 limbs and spiny skin. When an Echinoderm looses a limb they grow it back. This is called regeneration. Echinoderms have tubed feet for strong a grip on the rocks. Examples of Echinoderms are urchins, sea stars, and brittle stars.

The third type of invertebrates are Mollusc. Mollusc either have 1 or 2 shells. Snails, also known as Gastropods, use a radula to feed. A radula is a tongue. Bivalves are filter feeders. This means they suck in water and spit out whatever they don't need.

The fourth type of invertebrate are Arthropods. Arthropods have jointed legs and those legs and its body are covered by an exoskeleton. Crabs and lobsters use molting to break out of their small shells. After that they are exposed and hide till a new shell grows.

The last type of invertebrates are the Annelids. Annelids are segmented worms. They feed with their proboscis or mouth. I'm still here to learn more about other marine life.
