Dear Mrs. Cerelli,

On the first day of the Howard Hughes Science Camp or HHSC we learned about the marine wocabulary. Some of the words were: Physical property, Chemical Property, Marine, Plankton, and Salinity. We also learned the meaning of all the words we learned. The meaning of the words I jusrt mentioned is:

Physical Property- Describes the outside

Chemical Property- Describes the inside

Marine- Something that deals with water

Plankton- Microscopic organisms that can't control where it goes in the water

Salinity- How salty the water is

That was most of the things that we learnesd on the first day. we also learned about the Neritic Zone, the Pelagic Zone, and the Abyssayl Zone. The Abyssal Zone is the deepest part of the ocean and The Neritic ZOne is the shallow part of the ocean. The pelagic Zone is in the middle of the Neritic and Abyssal Zone. We also learned about why the Abyssal Zone is the darkest part of the ocean and why the Neritic Zone is the lightest part of the ocean. The Neritic Zone is the lightest because it gets 100% of sunlight and the Abyssal zone is the darkest because it gets 0% of sunlight.

The next day we learned about Invertebrates and the diferent tyes of Invertebrates. Types of Invertebrates are: Cnidarian, Mollusc, Arthropod, Annelid, and the Enchioderm. Thwe Cnidarins are like the Jellyfish and the Sea Anenome (an upside down jellyfish that sticks on rocks). The Mollusc have 1 or 2 shells and the foot= the base of the body. Arthropods have jointed legs, exoskeleton=protection, and complex eyes. Annelids are like worms, Tubeworms, Earthworms, and Marine Worms. Finally Enchioderms have Spiny skin , and Tube Feet. We also got to make Questions for scientist that we were going to eat lunch with. My Westions were:

1) What made you be what you are?

2) When did you know that you were going to be what you are

3) Would you have chosen what you would have chosen if you had an opportunity to do another job.

Down below here are some pictures of some animals that we got to touch.

sicerely, Imani Mulzac
